Military Girlfriends - I am 21 years old. This year we're celebrating I Can Legal Drink. We should go to bars and parties and wake up to eat a carb-filled breakfast to fight the hangover. We should enjoy the holidays, kiss at the New Year's Eve ball and take pictures at the famous New York Christmas tree.
But we do none of that. Not because we don't want to. But because it's not an option.

I don't spend every holiday with him, but I get a phone call that means more than anything in the world. I don't get to take a new profile picture with him every week, but I look back at the ones I have and know how it feels to cherish the moments.

I don't get to cuddle with him every time there's a snowstorm, but I always get a phone call reminding me to drive safely in inclement weather. I don't always have someone to hang out with when my friends are busy, but I do have time to work on things I've been putting off. I don't get to see my husband at every big event, but when I do get to talk to him, he's more interested in my life and really wants to hear every detail about it. I don't have to talk to my husband every second I want, but I know we're always on each other's minds.
I started dating my husband before he left for boot camp. I didn't know what it would be like and I didn't know how I would feel or if I could live. Not talking to your boyfriend and sending letters seemed like a ridiculous thing for a 21-year-old, and it was.
In every letter there were many tears. There were many holidays spent alone, many hard days when he wasn't there, many family events and parties I attended alone. And why? Because he chose to sign the contract.

Throughout the process of marrying a man so young in life, I have learned many life lessons. Lessons I've learned over the months. I learned to pick and choose my battles, I learned to control my emotions and show them properly, I learned to be angry but to argue honestly.
I have learned to truly forgive and forget. I learned that there is a time and a place for everything. I've learned that timing is key to having those tough emotional conversations you know you need to have.
I learned that choosing love is right for me. I learned that rejecting her would be a big mistake.

So if you grow up with a loved one, see yourself mature, face the difficulties of life together, build your stability and love each other endlessly, it's not something you want, it's simple: don't marry a young man. Leave the relationship now.
But if it is, get married, start your life together and fall more and more in love every day. But be prepared for some rough patches and rough nights and just know that you can get through it, it is possible (no matter what others tell you or what you read on the internet).
